Welcome to the Iowa Association of Track Officials Section | January, 2010
IATO Members:
Welcome to the Iowa Association of Track Officials. It is my pleasure to serve as president of the only organization, to my knowledge, which works to specifically improve the quality of officiating for a single sport. In our years of existence since 1999, it is safe to say that track and field officiating has improved dramatically. The annual clinic, rules meetings, and officiating opportunities at the local, state, collegiate, and national levels have given IATO members exposure and recognition for themselves and our organization. While none of us work track and field for recognition, we can take pride that others do notice our efforts.
For the organization to remain vital and effective, it is necessary that our membership numbers reflect our commitment to the sport. Therefore, I encourage present members to renew and encourage others to become part of our group. Please complete the enclosed membership form and return it to Dave Suntken at your earliest opportunity. New Members will be eligible for a two year membership for the price on one year.
It is my hope that our membership will continue to support the annual clinic, become involved in the local and state organizations when possible, and work with us to improve as a group. If you haven’t done so, take the necessary exam to improve your state rating. It’s not that difficult! I would also encourage certification with USATF. The more we work to improve our knowledge and skills, the greater will be our influence as we continue to improve track and field officiating throughout the state.
I know one of the “perks” provided by the IATO has been the bulk purchase of blanks for our IATO membership/starters. The shells are to be used by our members and not to be resold. IATO is fully aware that it is becoming more difficult in securing shells and we want our members to enjoy benefit of lower prices. If you have any ideas on how we can monitor our exclusive distribution, please let me or any board member know. Additionally, should you have any concerns, ideas, or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact us. The contact information for all the IATO board members is listed on the Iowa Association of Track Coaches website under Officials IATO.
I hope you have a great track and field season for the next two years.
Sincerely,
Charles B. Liston, IATO President | | | | |
